Los
Angeles, CA
—
Listed annually by U.S. News & World Report as among “America’s
Best Colleges,”
California State
University, Los Angeles’ (CSULA) College of Business and Economics (CBE)
was recently reaccredited in business
by the
Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).
Founded in
1916, AACSB International is the longest serving global accrediting body
for business schools that offer bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate
degrees in business and accounting. An
AACSB accreditation is the hallmark of excellence in business education.
“This
is a great honor, particularly when one considers that there are more
than 13,000 universities and colleges offering business degrees in the
world, and only 649 of them are AACSB accredited,” said James Goodrich,
dean of the College of Business and Economics at CSULA. “We
were the first college accredited at CSULA in 1960, so many of us in the
College of Business and Economics view this as a significant and
enduring tradition in Cal State L.A.’s overall remarkable legacy.”
To
maintain accreditation, the CBE must undergo a rigorous internal review
every five years. The program must also demonstrate its continued
commitment to 21 quality standards, which relate to faculty
qualification, strategic management, interactions of faculty and
students, as well as a commitment to continuous improvement and
achievement of learning goals in degree programs.
CBE’s reaccreditation also showcased its high-quality teaching
environment, and curricula that is responsive to the needs of
businesses.
“It takes
a great deal of self-evaluation and determination to earn and maintain
AACSB Accreditation,” said Jerry Trapnell, vice president and chief
accreditation officer of AACSB International. “Schools not only must
meet specific standards of excellence, but their deans, faculty, and
staff must make a commitment to ongoing improvement to ensure continued
delivery of high-quality education to students.”
CBE’s reaccreditation will be recognized
April
29–May 1, 2012
at the AACSB International
Conference and
Annual Meeting
in San Diego.
