Cal State L.A.'’s Ronald Johnson and Jurate Orinaite

Named to All-Region Basketball Teams

Both players advance to national ballot for All-America consideration

LOS ANGELES -- Cal State L.A. men's basketball junior forward Ronald Johnson (South Gate, CA/South Gate) and senior women's basketball center Jurate Orinaite (Marijampole, Lithuania/Patten College) have been named All-Region by the nation’s Division II men’s and women’s college basketball coaches.

Johnson’s honor comes from the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), the second-straight season Johnson has earned NABC All-Region honors. He led the CCAA conference this season in scoring with 21.0 points per game and ranked sixth in the CCAA in both field goal (.480) and free throw (.768) percentage. Johnson will enter his senior season tied for second on the school's all-time scoring chart with 1,432 points. He needs just 210 points to break Tommie Lipsey's school record of 1,641 career points.

Orinaite was named Kodak All-Region by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). This year, she broke her own CSLA single-season blocked shot record with 84, concluding her career with a school-record 164 blocked shots and sixth in school history with 519 rebounds. Orinaite finished the 2001-02 regular season ranked ninth in the NCAA in blocked shots (3.1 per game) and 23rd in rebounding (10.4 per game).

Johnson and Orinaite are now eligible for NABC and Kodak All-America honors, respectively. Both organizations are expected to announce their Division II All-America teams next week.
