180 local kids polish up their writing skills at Cal State L.A.
Los Angeles, CA – More than a hundred young budding writers from the Greater Los Angeles area will present their culminating projects at an Open House Thursday, July 25, from 10 a.m. to noon, in the King Hall classrooms, on the Cal State L.A. campus.
For a period of three weeks (July 8-25), the L.A. Writing Project at Cal State L.A. has been offering opportunities for children, grades 1-12, to enrich their literary skills and develop their creativity.
Cal State L.A.’s Young Writers’ Camp (for grades 1-6) features fun-filled writing assignments and invigorating activities, such as drama, music, storytelling, poetry, drawing and painting.
The University’s Secondary Writing Institute (for grades 7-12) features daily writing workshops introducing students to the writing process, to strategies of professional writers, and to a variety of writing types.
The L.A. Writing Project aims to build an ongoing and expanding community of young writers and readers. The objectives are also for the young students to improve writing confidence, analyze different genres of writing, engage in constructive critiques, and receive one-on-one instruction.
