Los Angeles, CA – Discover the philosophers of western science and examine the journey of becoming an American at California State University, Los Angeles.

As part of its winter course offerings designed for individuals age 50 and older, the University’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) presents “Philosophy of Western Science.” This class will be held at Cal State L.A.’s Institute for Applied Gerontology, Salazar Hall C98, on Fridays, Feb. 8-Mar. 14, from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Taught by CSULA emeritus professor of chemistry Harold Goldwhite, the course will explore the philosophy of western science at various points in history in terms of the views of particular philosophers and the content and nature of the science of their times.

This quarter will also feature two special series funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities: “The People of America: A History of Immigration” and “American Dreams, American Realities: The Literature of Immigration and the Ethnic American Experience.” The Thursday series will be held at Atherton Baptist Homes in Alhambra; with one class offered in February and the next offered in March.
