3 CSULA alums selected as 2010-11 top school teachers
Los Angeles County Teachers of the Year announced
Los Angeles, CA — Reflecting the University’s success in preparing and producing outstanding educators, three Los Angeles County Teachers of the Year for 2010-11 are graduates of California State University, Los Angeles.
The CSULA alumni named among the “Sweet 16”—as outstanding educators who have been serving with “praiseworthy distinction,” according to Los Angeles County Interim Superintendent of Schools Jon R. Gundry—are:
Kelsey Brown (M.A., 2002)
Holly Avenue Elementary School, 5th Grade; Arcadia Unified School District; Pasadena resident
Brian Morita (B.A., 2000)
El Sereno High School, 6th Grade; Los Angeles Unified School District; Downey resident
Tina Repetti Renzullo (B.A., 1989)
McKinley School, Kindergarten; Pasadena Unified School District; Pasadena resident

According to the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE), the L.A. County Teachers of the Year represent the profession’s “best of the best” in the state’s largest honors competition for K-12 educators. Judged as the county’s top public school teachers for the academic year, the LACOE described the honorees as “standard-bearers for the teaching profession and their 80,000 classroom colleagues countywide.”
The L.A. County Teachers of the Year Program is the largest local competition in the state and nation, and is part of the oldest and most prestigious honors contest in the U.S. for K-12 public school teachers.
