Los Angeles,
CA –
Impressed by the “vibrant displays” of public art in Los Angeles,
The Consulate General of Mexico in Los
Angeles
will
present the “Walls of Passion: The Murals of Los Angeles”
photo-documentary exhibition at its gallery from March 19-April 19.
The
exhibition—already capturing the interests of hundreds from the
community—features 32 Los Angeles murals researched by 15 Cal State
L.A. graduate students as part of their culminating class project.
(See below for the list of featured muralists, as well as the
graduate students involved in the project.)
The “Walls of
Passion” opening reception and panel discussion at the Mexican
Consulate of Los Angeles will be held Thursday, March 19, at
7 p.m. The panelists will include muralists Eloy Torrez,
Wayne Alaniz Healey, Francisco Letelier; CSULA art history professor
Manuel Aguilar-Moreno; and grad student/curator Isabel
Rojas-Williams.
According to
Mexico’s Los Angeles Consul of Cultural Affairs Alejandro Pelayo-Rangel,
“The Mexican Consulate invited the ‘Walls of Passion’ exhibit to its
gallery because the project promotes important awareness of the
history and culture of Los Angeles—and a fundamental understanding
of the region’s rich diversity.”
Professor Aguilar-Moreno said,
“The organic quality of this form of art inspired the creation of
his research project that involves the study and documentation of
the social significance and dynamic nature of the murals created by
the diverse ethnic groups in our city.”
The
murals represent an array of cultures and ethnicities in L.A.,
including Latino, African American, Filipino, Anglo American,
Chinese, and Korean, said Aguilar-Moreno.
