‘May-Day’ on runway at CSULA Fashion Show

Student designers to showcase new collections Thursday, May 26

Los Angeles, CA – Displaying apparel designs with themes that address social issues and more, Cal State L.A.’s Fashion Association of Design Students (FADS) will present its May-Day Senior Fashion Show on Thursday, May 26, in the Music Patio on the CSULA campus. The doors open at 2 p.m. and the shows begin at 3 p.m.

The fashion show, featuring works by students in the University’s Fashion and Textiles Program, will also include live music by CSULA Jazz Trio, refreshments and a raffle drawing.

Admission is free to the public; however, donations are accepted. Proceeds will go to LoveArt& (http://loveartand.org), a non-profit organization that provides creative and environmental activities for underserved youth. It is co-founded by CSULA alumna Shannon Lindsey-Frugis.

“The students will represent CSULA in its best light by promoting awareness of the potential of creativity to help solve social problems, and by stimulating the interest in the talent of CSULA students.  Hopefully, our efforts will place CSULA’s Fashion Design, Textiles and Merchandising concentration within the Art department on the map,” said CSULA student Jena Johnson, co-president of FADS.

This event is made possible with support by LoveArt&, CSULA Jazz Trio, Yardhouse Restaurant, Mark Cosmetics, L.A. Trade Tech Cosmetology, Associated Students, Inc., and the students and instructors in the Department of Art at CSULA.

Initiated in 1991, the annual CSULA Fashion Show prepares art students specializing in fashion design, fashion merchandising or textiles for the professional world of fashion. After graduation, many work in the apparel and textiles industry as assistant designers, retail managers, and sales representatives.
