Dr. Fred Moten, currently a professor at the University of California, Riverside, is a poet and theorist, a recent finalist for the National Book Award in Poetry and the author of works on aesthetics and politics. The lecture is free and open to the public. Doors will open at 5:30pm, and refreshments will be served.

An opera by Mark Adamo based on the novel by Louisa May Alcott.

The conference will feature nine renowned keynote and featured speakers, such as Richard Flores (University of Texas at Austin), John Holmes McDowell (Indiana University), and Oscar J. Martínez (University of Arizona). Other prominent speakers include film director Robert M. Young and award-winning actor and director Edward James Olmos. This conference on Américo Paredes will also include scenes from plays by Chicano dramatist Carlos Morton to be performed under the direction of Mexican actress Alejandra Flores, and panel sessions on various topics related to the conference's theme.
