The iconic Malian desert blues group Tinariwen returns to the Luckman! Named "Best African Band" by Rolling Stone, Tinariwen was formed in 1979 by group members from Tessalit, an oasis in the Sahara Desert in northern Mali. The group, whose name translates to "deserts," draws their style of music from rock as well as African and Middle Eastern music, mixing acoustic and electric guitars, electric bass, drums, and gnarled picking patterns from West African lutes.

The kick-off event for this year's One Campus, One Book (OCOB) -- a University Library initiative designed to encourage a common reading experience and sense of community at Cal State L.A. The 2014-15 selection is Shanghai Girls by Lisa See. The novel follows the story of two wealthy sisters in 1930s Shanghai, China, who, to pay off their father's gambling debt, are sold into marriage to two brothers in Los Angeles.
