Organic Chemistry. Synthesis of natural and designed molecules for high affinity complexation of ferric ion as probes in the study of iron acquisition, transport, and utilization in bacteria. Development of ligands potentially useful as therapeutic agents for the management of human disease resulting from toxic iron or actinide overload.
