Both Rihanna (Barbados) and Drake (Toronto) enjoy commercial success, embedded in hip-hop culture, Caribbean influences, and youth culture. This merging of culture shapes and defines taste, popular dances, and fashion. This conversation will look at the long-standing, but under-discussed Caribbean influence on Black American popular music.
