Description

The “Minimalist Sax” concert by the Orion Saxophone Quartet will feature works by notable minimalist composers Philip Glass, Steve Reich and Michael Torke. The program will also feature the Los Angeles premiere of “Pitch Black” by Dutch composer Jacob Ter Veldhuis. “Pitch Black” is a work for saxophone quartet and an 80’s style boombox, juxtaposing the quartet with a recorded accompaniment derived from one of the last interviews with the late jazz trumpeter Chet Baker.

The Cal State LA Saxophone Quartet will open the concert with Lino Florenzo’s “Sud America” and Eugene Bozza’s “Nuages.” The Cal State LA Saxophone Quartet is comprised of students from the saxophone studio at Cal State LA.
