Description

As Self Help Graphics & Art enters its 45th anniversary, this exhibition in partnership with the Cal State LA Fine Arts Gallery looks back on decades of artistic innovation and excellence, organizational resilience and expanded activity. We also take this time to look forward toward an exciting evolution of Chicana/o and Latinx aesthetics. Founded by Franciscan nun Sister Karen Boccalero and local Chicano artists Carlos Bueno, Antonio Ibañez, and Frank Hernandez inside a garage in East L.A. on Cesar Chavez Avenue, Self Help Graphics & Art has continued to represent the heart of the Chicano Art Movement. An opening reception will be held on Aug. 25 from 5 to 8 p.m. in Cal State LA's Fine Arts Gallery.
