Description

This exhibit of paramount importance as during  the last decade the Iranian photographers have become a significant part of the contemporary art scene. Iranian photographers have become a major vehicle of expressing the complexity of Iranian culture today. They have through a labyrinthine system of signs and symbols managed to express the complexity of a  civilization with ancient pre-Islamic  roots  and presently an ambivalent relationship with Arab-Islam. The sophistication of their art bespeaks of  the inherent  conflicts in the Iranian zeitgeist. In fact, Iranian photography, far more than Iranian Painting or sculpture deals with such sensitive issues as identity, gender, history, and the role of language in constructing  Truth and reality.

Abbas Daneshvari, Simin Dehghani, and Marjan Asgari are the curators of this exhibit scheduled to open on April 12, 2014, at the Fine Arts Gallery of Cal State L.A.
