Hear from organizers of the key spaces that helped nurture different Latina/o popular music scenes in Greater Los Angeles in the 1990s and 2000s, including the Troy Cafe, the Peace and Justice Center, and Popular Resource Center/ Regeneración.
·         Sean Carrillo - In 1990 Carrillo and Bibbe Hansen opened Troy Cafe in downtown Los Angeles which quickly became nationally renowned for showcasing the best in multi-cultural music, art and performance, with a special emphasis on the Latina/o Arts Community.
·         Carmelo Alvarez - Alvarez has been a youth and cultural advocate for over 30 years. Since 1979 he has opened numerous youth and community-based cultural centers mainly in the City of Los Angeles but also in Tijuana and New York City including the seminal hip hop youth center Radiotron and the Peace and Justice Center (home of the Grammy Award winner Ozomatli and the Black Eyed Peas).
·         Lilia Ramirez - Ramirez is a Los Angeles based working artist since 1995. She has worked and exhibited in various galleries, art events, bookstores and cafes. In 1996 she co-founded the Peace and Justice Center in Downtown Los Angeles.
·         Antonio Garcia - Garcia, also known as Willie Garcia, is an artist and photographer based in Los Angeles whose work has been featured in the LA Weekly, Urb Magazine, Rap Pages, among other publications. In the mid-1990s he co-founded Regeneración, a Community Center in Highland Park that offered language and various socially motivated classes for free and was a vital part of the Eastside music scene of the 1990s.
·         Quetzal Flores – Founder and lead guitarist of the Grammy award winning band Quetzal, Flores served as a board member for Regeneración in Highland Park.
