Summer Housing Eligibility Criteria

Those looking to stay in Housing over the summer must have at least one of the following requirements:

  4. Exceptions may be granted by the Executive Director of Housing and Residence Life or a designee.

All continuing Cal State LA students are eligible to apply for summer housing with the exception of May Intersession, which is available to returning residents only. A continuing Cal State LA student is someone who is enrolled full-time at Cal State LA for spring 2024.

Students who have completed the online Summer 2024 Housing Application and License Agreement and paid the $40 application fee, will receive a notification informing them of their status via their Cal State LA email.

If you have completed the online Summer 2024 Housing Application and License Agreement and satisfied the $40 application and have not received an email, please contact the Office of Housing and Residence Life and provide us with proof of payment and completion so that we may review your account.

Ineligibility:

A student may not be eligible for summer housing if they:

  • Has not satisfied the required $40 application payment.
  • Has not been enrolled at Cal State LA for the entirety of the spring semester and will not be enrolled for the fall academic semester.

Summer Housing FAQ

For residents:

The Summer 2024 Housing License Agreement will include the break between spring and summer for residents or the break in between summer and fall if you are contracting for May Intersession, which has a start date of May 20, 2024, Summer Session A (only), or Full Summer (Session A & B) occupancy, which have a start date of May 20, 2024. Session B (only) will not be allowed to stay for the break between spring and summer.

Residents’ 2023–2024 License Agreements expires on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at 2 p.m.

All residents will be required to remove their belongings and check out by 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2024, unless they've opted to live in Housing for any summer session besides Session B (Only). Otherwise, current residents may remain in their current room until Transfer Day on May 23, 2024. Summer residents currently living in Housing are required to finish their transfer by 2 p.m. May 24, 2024.

Students wishing to change their stay must do so by the cancellation deadline by emailing [email protected]You can view this date on the Important Dates & Deadlines page.

The Office of Housing and Residence Life will review the request and notify the student if approved or denied. If the request is approved, students should be prepared to pay the price difference in the housing fees and be prepared to check out or check in according to the new Agreement start date.

Students should be aware that choosing to move out earlier or arrive after the start of their contract will NOT result in housing fee proration. Housing fees will reflect the agreement term dates you selected when completing your Summer Housing License Agreement.

Once a student has received a Housing assignment confirmation, their summer 2024 housing fees will be posted to their student account. Summer fee deadlines can be viewed on the Important Dates & Deadlines page.

You MUST review your housing bill in April/May and follow the payment dates outlined on your student account to avoid late fees. Late fees are applied monthly for past-due balances. All fees must be paid in full prior to a student’s arrival on campus.

Students must meet the eligibility criteria (see above) throughout the entire Summer Housing Application Process. Any attempt to make the initial payment with an outstanding balance will not be reflected as an initial payment, instead, it will be applied to the outstanding balance. Housing and Residence Life reserves the right to cancel a student’s application and room reservation if the student defaults on payments, meeting sanctions, has a conduct issue or does not meet the enrollment eligibility criteria.

Students are responsible for submitting a License Agreement Cancellation Request Form through the Housing Portal cancellation no later than the official cancellation date. This date is set to accommodate the required 5-day (or 30-day for Summer Session B Only) notification process outlined in our Housing License Agreement.

You can view all dates and deadlines here.

If approved for cancellation, all fees, with exception of the $40 (non-refundable) application fee, will be credited to the Licensee’s student account. Students who fail to complete a cancellation form by the deadline may incur a $50 cancellation fee. Students that submit their cancellation request with less than the required 5-day (or 30-day for Summer Session B Only) notification will be assessed a prorated room charge.

Please read your Summer Housing License Agreement for full details.

Yes!

Once charges have been posted, the Housing Payment Plan request form will be live in your Housing Portal. This is for students who signed up for summer session A & B only who wish to pay in installments.

We’ll walk through the steps here to help you fill it out.

Some things to note:

  • Students need to fill out this form first before reaching out to our team for assistance. We’ll be able to help after the form has been submitted.
  • We recommend starting this process as soon as possible. Your first payment is due immediately after setting up your payment plan.
  • All payment plans need to be paid in full by the deadline.
  • Residents who do not pay their summer Housing balance or set up a payment plan will not be allowed to move into their summer space and will be expected to check-out by Move-out day.

Steps to create the Payment Plan

  1. Log into the Housing Portal using the SSO login. Do NOT try to log in using your Cal State LA username and password.
  2. Select “Forms”.
  3. Select “Payment Plan” file.
  4. Log into your GET account to see your charges.
  5. Go back to the form and follow the steps to complete, beginning with your name and CIN.
  6. Fill out tuition, Housing, Financial Aid, and what you’ve already paid to help calculate your payment. Please do not include your Housing application fee.
  7. Monthly payments must be divided equally by 3 months.
  8. There is a comment section where students are welcome to give us any important information we need to know related to the payments and payment plan.
  9. All payment plans need to be paid in full by the deadline.

Once you’ve submitted your form, please give a week or two for our team to process your form. If all calculations are correct, it will be approved. If not, we’ll reach out to you to assist in making appropriate adjustments.

In the meantime, do NOT wait until it’s approved to start make your payments. The first payment of your payment plan is due upon completion of the Payment Plan form.

After the plan has been approved, please refer to the payment schedule you’ve created to make those monthly payments. The Terms & Conditions include making payments on time, and every time a payment is late, students are charged a $20 late fee. So, please be mindful of your schedule as we will not be sending out payment reminders.
