Homecoming is a week of showcasing school pride, increased student involvement, celebrations, prizes, and creating unforgettable CSULA memories! This year’s theme was “Think Big, Think Bold. Rock Black, Rock Gold.”

The week began with barrels of laughter with the University’s first Comedy Night in the University-Student Union Theatre.

Acccording to Tasneem F. Noor, programs coordinator for Associated Students, Inc., “Refreshments, comedians and echoing sounds of students’ laughter made for a great way to launch Homecoming Ignites!”

Cal State L.A.’s 10th Annual Homecoming Bowl Out at the Alhambra Bowling Center followed on Tuesday featuring a live DJ, free food and giveaways.

Wednesday night, Noor said, was all about getting ready for the parade as students got together to decorate their floats.

Vice President of Student Affairs Tony Ross and A.S.I. President Joaquin Beltran spearheaded the Homecoming Parade, themed “Rockin’ L.A. Since ‘47!”, riding the A.S.I. float decorated as a giant Golden Eagle. The parade concluded with a pep rally and performances by the CSULA Step Team and the Cheer Squad, promoting the Student Appreciation Night that was to follow. It featured competitions in basketball shootouts, soccer shootouts, a Wii tournament, and Ultimate Frisbee.

“For the tailgates on Friday and Saturday, we brought out the free foam golden eagle talons, drinks and free pizza, so folks had plenty of energy to show our school spirit,” Noor said. “Friday night ended with a dance and a promise to keep thinking bigger and bolder as we rocked out in black and gold… now and into the future!”
