Cal State L.A. to ‘Give Back’ during Big Sunday—but on Friday

What:  A team of more than 50 students, staff and faculty from Cal State L.A. will be participating in the first campus-wide “Give Back” on Friday, May 16, as part of Big Sunday (www.bigsunday.org) – a huge effort to encourage volunteerism in the City of Los Angeles for one weekend.

Cal State L.A. volunteers will help out at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. They will be sorting through non-perishable food donations, making sure all the food are of good quality to send out to the community. They will also be checking expiration dates on breads, sorting out produces, and separating the non-food donations.

Summary:  The “Give Back” project at Cal State L.A. is organized by the Center for Student Involvement and the Center for Engagement, Service, and the Public Good.

For one weekend in spring, Big Sunday encourages thousands of people from California, of all ages and all backgrounds, to work together at hundreds of nonprofits, schools and other agencies that need their help. It is one of the largest regional community service events in America. Helping people help others since 1999, Big Sunday is a nonprofit organization that is committed to working to build community through community service.
