Women Sought for Women's Chorus of Cal State L.A. and San Gabriel Valley
Los Angeles, CA -- July 15, 1996 -- This coming fall, Cal State L.A. will be offering a choral ensemble opportunity to women from the community and students, staff, faculty and alumni from CSLA. The chorus will meet Tuesday evenings, beginning October 1, 1996, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in the Choral Room of Cal State L.A.'s Music Building (room 124).
Directed by William Belan, professor of music and co-director of CSLA Choral Studies, the group is open to all women regardless of prior choral experience, although "those with some choral and/or musical experience are especially important to the formation of this group," says Belan. The ensemble offers an enjoyable way to receive choral training and learn performance techniques in a congenial atmosphere. An accompanist will be part of the musical team.
The chorus will prepare a minimum of two programs each year and maintain a regular repertoire for invited appearances. In addition to performing solo recitals, the ensemble will perform combined concerts with other Cal State L.A. and community choirs. Performances may be part of campus events, especially those relating to women, such as the annual Women's History Month Celebration.
The ensemble is sponsored by CSLA Choral Studies and the Women's Resource Center at Cal State L.A. The University is located ten minutes from downtown Los Angeles and, is easily accessible from the Eastern Avenue exit of the I-10 (San Bernardino) freeway, at the I-10 and I-710 interchange.
For details and enrollment information, call Virginia Cooper, Coordinator, CSLA Women's Resource Center, (323) 343-3373.
