11:00-1:30 Michele Serros - Music Hall *
Award-winning write and poet Michele Serros has toured as a
Road Poet with Lollapalooza and authored Chicana Falsa and
Other Stories of Death, Identity and Oxnard. "Because Serros
has the genius to create full-blooded characters in just a few
sentences, the poems lend themselves to performances, which are
part poetry reading, part stand-up comedy, part theatrical event"
ÂSi magazine. Co-sponsored by CSULAÂs PALS Program
(Partnership for Academic Learning and Success) Educational
Opportunity Program, Student Support Programs, and Cross Cultural
Centers.

A town-hall-style meeting of entertainment executives,
political leaders, educators, scholars and students, led by a
panel of entertainment industry experts, that will discuss the
steps the entertainment industry and the CSU system can take
toward the goal of a more diverse workforce.

Join Reel Rasquache 2005 as we recognize and celebrate the Reel
Rasquache 2005 Career Achiever recipient, renowned producer,
writer, entertainment industry executive, Emmy winner, Academy
Award nominee, education leader, Moctesuma Esparza. A
successful producer, and a long-time community activist, EsparzaÂs
films have garnered more than 100 awards including Emmy Award (Cinco
Vidas); Clio Award; Academy Award Nomination (Agueda Martinez).
The highly successful Esparza-Katz Productions produced the film
Selena, The Disappearance of Garcia Lorca and The Rough Riders, a
four-hour mini-series for TNT. Since the 1960s, Esparza has been
producing Chicano cultural programs for radio and television, and
films for Infinity Factory, Bilingual Children's Television and
Sesame Street. His inspiring work has been a catalyst for positive
change, and was honored with the Cine '98 Award from the San
Diego-Baja California Latino Film Festival. He has been a media
and film consultant to the Chicano Studies Department at the
University of California.
MC: Monica Palacios: In 2002, writer/performer Monica
Palacios was honored by Out Magazine on its ÂOut 100Â list
for promoting positive Queer images. The Latin Pride Foundation
and many other institutions have also honored Palacios.
Tentaciones magazine named her one of the 16 most influential
LGBT Latinas/os for 2002 for her activism, achievements,
visibility and leadership. Her writing appears in many Latino and
Queer Anthologies. Palacios is an adjunct professor at UCLA and at
UC Riverside.
