John A. Gamon
Associate Professor of Biology; Ph.D., UC Davis
Dr. Gamon is a plant ecophysiologist, with a background in ecology, plant physiology, botany and remote sensing. As an ecophysiologist, he is interested in the effects of environmental factors on plant physiology, structure and productivity. Most of his research involves studies of photosynthesis, and recently he has been applying new remote sensing technology (including spectroradiometry and image analysis) to evaluate plant productivity and physiological performance, particularly in the context of natural and anthropogenic perturbation. His recent research topics have included fire ecology, and impacts of air pollution and global change on vegetation.
Robert R. Nakamura
Associate Professor of Biology; Ph.D., Yale University
Dr. Nakamura's area of research includes the evolution and ecology of plant reproduction. He has studied the effects on plant fitness of pollen production, pollination, seed and fruit development, and variation in seed size, and has studied the male and female reproductive success of hermaphroditic plants. Dr. Nakamura's areas of expertise include plants of California, the Northeast and the Pacific Northwest.
