In ‘Dream Guns,’ works by 3 New York artists featured

Jan. 30-Feb. 25 exhibit at Cal State L.A. to empower, inspire

Los Angeles, CA – Featuring drawings, sculptures and installations by New York-based artists Alexi Chisler, Libby Hartle and Meridith Pingree, the CSULA Fine Arts Gallery presents a group exhibition, “I’m Giving You My Dream Guns.”

Curated by Mika Cho, the exhibition runs January 30 through February 25. The opening reception will be Saturday, Jan. 30, from 6-9 p.m.

The work of these three artists are, in various ways, inspired by natural growth patterns, and explore the mechanics of organic processes by incorporating smaller elements to make up larger natural systems.

According to Cho, the title, “I’m Giving You My Dream Guns,” is not literal or descriptive, so much as an open-ended metaphor. She said, “The giving away of the dream gun refers to the way, in which the exhibition presents the artists’ work: they give their power and ideas away to the audience, in the hope that it will give them power and inspiration.”

An art educator, researcher, educational consultant, and visual artist, Cho is a professor in the Art Department at Cal State L.A.

The Fine Arts Gallery is open Monday through Thursday and Saturdays, from noon to 5 p.m. Admission is free. For more information, call (323) 343-4040 or email [email protected].
