Cal State L.A. to honor four top educators at its Distinguished Educator Award Dinner Nov. 19

Los Angeles, CA – For their outstanding leadership and service, four remarkable educators—Linda Del Cueto, Michelle King, Lawrence Moore, and Susan Parks—will be honored at Cal State L.A.’s 21st Annual Distinguished Educator Award Dinner Friday, Nov. 19.

Sponsored by the Friends of the Charter College of Education at Cal State L.A., the event will be held at the Golden Eagle Ballroom on the Cal State L.A. campus, beginning with a reception at 5 p.m. followed by a dinner at 6 p.m. 

Linda Del Cueto, Superintendent,  Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), Local District 1

Linda Del Cueto (La Canada resident) assumed the role of superintendent of LAUSD’s Local District 1 on July 1, 2010. She was honored by the Association of California School Administrators-Region XVI as an Outstanding Superintendent in 2008, when she served as superintendent of the Local District 8. During her tenure, Harbor Teacher Preparatory Academy and 156th Street Elementary School earned National Blue Ribbon Distinction. Del Cueto began her career as an educator in 1982, working as an English teacher at Nimitz Middle School in Huntington Park. Her LAUSD leadership experiences include serving as principal of Le Conte Middle School, district chief negotiator for collective bargaining, staff relations field director, Local District E director, support services and administrator of instruction for both District E and Local District 3.

Michelle King, Chief of Staff, LAUSD

Michelle King (Los Angeles resident) is chief of staff for the LAUSD, serving as a top adviser to district Superintendent Ramon Cortines and helps to implement district initiatives and policy. Before she assumed her current position, she was superintendent of LAUSD’s Local District 3. King has held numerous essential leadership positions in the LAUSD, including the interim chief instructional officer for secondary education. A career educator, King has served LAUSD as deputy chief instructional officer, assistant superintendent of health and human services, senior high school principal, assistant principal, coordinator, and teacher. 

Lawrence Moore, Retired School Administrator, LAUSD, and Adjunct Professor, CSU Northridge

Lawrence H. Moore (Los Angeles-West Hollywood resident) has served in numerous capacities within the LAUSD. He has been an elementary teacher, a special education teacher, an adult education teacher, a vice principal and a principal. He also held several other administrative posts, including the director of instruction, cluster administrator, coordinator, and director of professional development. He continues to lend his expertise and advice to LAUSD as a consultant in various aspects of the district. He also teaches at CSU Northridge in its Educational Leadership Program. Moore received his Bachelor of Arts in 1961 from Cal State L.A. in elementary education.  He went on to complete his Master of Science in School Administration from USC and a Doctor of Philosophy from Claremont Graduate School in Executive Management Training. 

Susan Parks, Superintendent, San Gabriel Unified School District

Susan Parks (San Gabriel resident) has been the superintendent of the San Gabriel Unified School District (SGUSD) for more than four years. Prior to this position, she took on the responsibility of program director for Pepperdine University’s new Educational Leadership, Administration, and Policy doctoral program.  She has served for several decades as a teacher, K-12 curriculum director, elementary education director, assistant superintendent for educational services, assistant superintendent for personnel services and deputy superintendent in Simi Valley. In 1997, she became superintendent of the Baldwin Park Unified School District. 

The Friends of the Charter College of Education is a group of alumni, educators and community members who support scholarships for students in Cal State L.A.’s teacher-preparation and school administrator programs and other activities.
