Cal State L.A. announces Richard Cordova, 10 others,
as awardees for its 36th gala

CSULA Alumnus of the Year

Los Angeles, CA – Drum roll, please…. California State University, Los Angeles announces Richard D. Cordova (Class of ’72), president and chief executive officer of Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles, as the recipient of the University’s 2010 Alumnus of the Year. Cordova is a Pasadena resident.

Ten outstanding Golden Eagle alumni will also be recognized during the 36th annual Alumni Awards Gala Thursday, Oct. 21, at the Luckman Fine Arts Complex, on the Cal State L.A. campus.

University Service Award

Susan De Pietro (’71) is a nurse, attorney and educator.  A Los Angeles-90027 resident, De Pietro is a part-time faculty member in Cal State L.A.’s School of Nursing and served as president of the CSULA Alumni Association for the 2009-10 term.

Distinguished Faculty Alumna
Marlene Zepeda (72) is a professor of child and family studies in the College of Health and Human Services at Cal State L.A. She is a Los Angeles-90066 resident.

Organized by the CSULA Alumni Association, the event opens with a VIP reception at 5:30 p.m. in the Luckman Gallery. The dinner festivity begins at 6:30 p.m. on the campus’ Luckman Street of the Arts, followed by an Academy Awards-style ceremony and multimedia video presentation in the Luckman Theatre. Who:                The Gala honors the achievement of nine CSULA alumni and two students for their professional achievement, University service, community service and/or academic achievement.

When:              Thursday, Oct. 21, 5:30 p.m.-VIP reception; 6:30 p.m.-dinner program

Where:             Luckman Fine Arts Complex, on the CSULA campus. The University is located at the Eastern Avenue exit, San Bernardino (I-10) Freeway, at the interchange of 10 and 710 freeways. Public permit dispenser parking is available in Lot 7 or upper level Parking Structure C.
