The University is organized into six Colleges that house nearly 50 academic departments and divisions. Cal State L.A. offers a variety of majors leading to bachelor's and master's degrees, and awards more than 3,000 academic degrees annually. A doctorate in Special Education is also offered.

Making national news, Cal State L.A.'s student-built, solar-powered car--Solar Eagle III--became an important emblem of the University, after it brought home the gold for the University's golden anniversary by securing first place in the prestigious North American solar car race, Sunrayce 97.
Cal State L.A. is located five miles east of the Los Angeles civic center and near the western San Gabriel Valley cities of Alhambra and Monterey Park. The University is highly recognized for its culturally rich and varied student body. Its reputation as a center of learning attracts students from all areas of the United States, as well as international students.
