He is a fourth-year criminal justice major with a minor in sociology, law and society emphasis, and has been on the Dean’s List for the past two years (2016-2017). As vice president, he is excited to work alongside the Directors of Social Media and Branding, Recruitment and Membership Engagement, and the Director of Academics. Angel understands that academic standing is important for applying to law schools, which is why he will work in tandem with the directors to ensure that the members are not only engaged in the Pre-Law Society but are also academically outstanding.
Since joining the Pre-Law Society, he has gained valuable experiences from listening to guest speakers, taking law school tours, speaking to law school representatives during the Pre-Law Society’s annual law fair, and much more! Angel hopes that he alongside the board and directors can make the academic year as fulfilling for the new and existing members as it was for him.
Valerie Govea, a political science major, joined the Pre-Law Society as a freshman and has served as Philanthropy Chair for the last three years. During her time, she has been able to interact with admissions representatives and gain knowledge about the law school process. Through PLS she has also met fellow students and others who share the same vision of one day becoming lawyers. As secretary, she wants to further develop connections for PLS members who are their pathway to law school.
Fun Fact: She loves to read, and try new foods!
Sharon Pelaez is a transfer student at Cal State LA and has been a member of the Pre-Law Society for three years. She is a CLS (Chicana/o and Latina/o Studies) and Sociology (Law & Society Option) major who will be graduating in Spring 2019. Sharon previously served as a PLS outreach committee member and social media & branding director. Since joining the Pre-Law Society, Sharon has learned more about the law school admissions process and about the various fields of law.
As a primarily first-generation, low-income, and commuter campus it is important that students at Cal State LA have the support and resources to learn about law school and legal field. Events such as the annual law fair, brunch with attorneys, and law school tours have all helped Sharon grow and become more confident as a student and prospective law school applicant. As treasurer she looks forward to working alongside the board and committee directors to ensure that current and future PLS associates are able to have the same opportunities she did as a member.
Sharon is also an active member of MALCS (Mujeres Activas en Letras y Cambio Social) on campus and is a member of the ASI Funding Sub-committee.
