Portrait of Dr. Rongxiang Xu

Rongxiang Xu

This is the first named college at Cal State LA. The naming recognizes the largest gift in the University’s history, from the National Rongxiang Xu Foundation.

An expert in regenerative medicine, the late Rongxiang Xu, MD (1958-2015), developed an innovative therapy for burns that helps to restore the physiological structure and function of the skin and other tissues, dramatically reducing pain, illness and death.

Trained as a surgeon, Dr. Xu witnessed the pain and scarring of burn patients treated by conventional methods and was determined to devise a more effective, less painful approach. Through years of studies, he and his research team revealed important new principles for regenerating adult tissue and organs. This knowledge was translated into novel topical therapies. Dr. Xu’s significant contributions saved lives, revolutionized wound treatment and dramatically improved the quality of life for countless patients around the world.

During the past three decades, Dr. Xu’s research in tissue repair and regeneration led to multiple U.S. patents and the growth of his successful multi-national company, MEBO International. His scientific achievements have been acknowledged by three U.S. presidents. The Chinese government honored Dr. Xu for his numerous contributions with a commemorative stamp with his image.

A graduate of the Qingdao Medical College, Dr. Xu based his business in Southern California, his primary U.S. residence. Dr.Xu developed a deep affection for Los Angeles, and he was committed to enhancing the health and welfare of those in his adopted home.
