The Future of HCAO

Dear NSS Students:

I have been notified of some reports regarding the cancelation of the Health Careers Advisement Office (HCAO). Contrary to what you may have heard, please be assured that HCAO is neither cancelled nor being eliminated.

Under my tenure as the dean of the college, I have worked diligently with the Director of Student Success and the HCAO advisor to provide students with the support they need in order to fulfill their professional goals in the health professions. This includes allocating funds to hire an advisor, meetings with health profession schools to explore pathways and linkages for our students, financial support of the MCAT exam preparation books, recruiting board members to provide programming guidance and more.

While it is true that the office is in transition, current programming within the office will continue as scheduled under Ameinah Thomas, an advisor in the college. Furthermore, all HCAO participants will continue to receive advising through the NSS Advisement Center.

As always, the Advisement Center and the Dean’s Office is taking the appropriate steps to ensure that all student concerns are addressed in a timely manner and we are committed to Cal State LA student success and overall well-being.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Pamela E. Scott-Johnson

REGARDING HEALTH PROFESSIONS FAIR

Good Morning All,

Thank you for registering for the 2nd Annual Cal State L.A. Health Professions Fair.  Unfortunately, this event has been canceled.  Although Cal State LA has no reported cases of coronavirus at this time, we continue to take measures to maintain the health of our University community.  Consistent with the California Department of Public Health recommendations, we are promoting social distancing by canceling all public events effective today, March 10, through May 31, 2020.  We are acting in the best interest of students, faculty, and staff, while supporting wider public health goals.

Your registration fee will be fully reimbursed, the funds will be credited back to the card used for payment.

Thank you so much for your interest in our Pre-Health student population, we hope to find ways to partner in the future.
