In 2014, my first year at Cal State LA, I was asked to be the Faculty Advisor for the Chemistry and Biochemistry Club. I am proud to say that I have continued the traditions of the Chemistry & Biochemistry Department and together, students and I have hosted guest speakers, organized a chemistry "magic show," and given tours of our research laboratories. I have organized and participated in many outreach activities with student volunteers. These include hosting students from local schools and also working with other campus organizations and departments including the Forensics Club and Center for Engagement, Service and the Public Good: http://www.calstatela.edu/engagement I have also given chemistry demonstrations for GO EastLA: http://www.calstatela.edu/engagement/goeastla
Students in my laboratory are encouraged to participate in outreach activities as they will enrich their CSULA experience, allow them to network, make friends, and keep them motivated in their STEM careers. Most importantly, to meet the demands of our nation and to solve problems of climate change, energy availability, food production and health care, it is critical that we continute to inspire future generations of scientists!
