Dr. Gomez's Research

Our laboratory has thrusts in two main areas: microfluidics and capillary electrophoresis. In microfluidics we are focused on developing new microfluidic devices (MDs) for use in chemical and biochemical separations. Some of our current work involves the development of bead-based assays, chromatography on chips, novel materials for microfluidics, new valve actuators, affinity capillary electrophoresis (ACE) and surface plasmon resonance (SPR)-CE on chips. In CE we are focused on developing new methodologies associated with ACE and microreactors and in experimental optimization using chemometrics. Some of our current work involves the development of new partial-filling ACE strategies, on-column enzymatic and non-enzymatic microreactions and employing response surface methodology (RSM) and artificial neural networks (ANN) in CE optimization studies.
