Cal State LA Master's Degree Regalia

Details: 1) Master's degree candidates wear the same black mortarboard (cap) with black tassel with the current academic year charm as the bachelor's degree candidates, 2) the black master's degree gowns have longer extended sleeves, 3) the master’s degree hood when folded have a bottom panel similar to the sleeve of the gown, 4) the master's degree hood color correspond to the academic degree program (please see below).

The color or colors of the silk lining of the hood worn over the academic robe of each master's participant represent(s) the academic institution from which they graduated. The official colors of Cal State LA are black and gold. The color of the velvet band around the hood designates the specific academic major or discipline as follows:

who is graduated in fall 2020 with a Doctor of Education degree in Educational Leadership.


Details: 1) Doctoral degree candidates wear a black tam with gold tassel, 2) the black doctoral degree robes have a black velvet panel running down the middle front, 3) the robe also have three black velvet chevrons on each sleeve, 4) the doctoral degree hood when folded have two panels at the bottom, 4) the doctoral degree hood color correspond to the academic degree program (please see below).

DOCTORAL HOOD COLORS

The color or colors of the silk lining of the hood worn over the academic robe of each doctoral candidate represent(s) the academic institution from which they graduated. The official colors of Cal State LA are black and gold. Doctoral hood will have "panels" at the sides of the hood that lie cape-like across the back. The color of the velvet band around the hood designates the specific academic major or discipline as follows:

Doctor of Philosophy in Special Education | Dark Blue
Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership | Light Blue
Doctor of Nursing Practice | Apricot

HONOR CORDS

Bachelor's degree candidates who graduated or projected to graduate with honors will receive their honor cords by mail in May. Notifications were sent out on April 28 to both Cal State LA and alternate email address on file.

As posted on the Graduation Office website regarding eligibility for baccalaureate honors, an undergraduate student must have completed a minimum of 45 units in residence at Cal State LA and have attained the appropriate standing (in terms of cumulative grade point average earned at Cal State LA) as described below:

Summa Cum Laude: GPA equal to or greater than 3.9
Magna Cum Laude: GPA equal to or greater than 3.75 but less than 3.9
Cum Laude: GPA equal to or greater than 3.5 but less than 3.75

All students attaining these minimum grade point averages will be awarded the corresponding honors upon conferral of degree. Please note that the honor status featured on the virtual celebration is based on current completed courses, and from the graduation list of May 19 at 9 a.m. (PT). All final honor designations will be listed on the graduate's transcript and will be based on final grades and verification by the Graduation Office.
