WILL THERE BE AN IN-PERSON COMMENCEMENT?

In-person ceremonies for the Class of 2021 and the Class of 2020 will be held at a future date. Our commencement will include guests, the reading of names, and other elements that graduates treasure. We will announce more details soon.   

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE COMMENCEMENT CEREMONIES?

The Class of 2021 and the Class of 2020 are eligible to participate in the Commencement ceremonies.

The Class of 2021 includes the graduates of fall 2020 and winter 2021, and the projected graduates of spring 2021 and summer 2021.

The Class of 2020 includes the graduates of fall 2019, winter 2020, spring 2020 and summer 2020.

WILL THERE STILL BE A VIRTUAL CELEBRATION FOR THE CLASS OF 2021?

Cal State LA will have a virtual celebration to spotlight each graduate of the Class of 2021. The site will go live the morning of Wednesday, May 26, and the online celebration can be viewed and shared any time so that you can safely celebrate this moment with your friends and family. 

We have partnered with MarchingOrder to provide a virtual platform for you to be recognized with an official slide that can be personalized with your photo, which can be downloaded and shared on social media. The notification to create a slide was sent to the email address you specified as your preferred email in the survey from April 21.  If you did not complete the survey, it was sent to your Cal State LA email address. Please make sure to check your spam folders if you do not see it in your inbox.

HOW DO I GET ASSISTANCE REGARDING MY REGALIA ORDER?

All orders for Cal State LA Commencement regalia are being fulfilled directly by the supplier, Oak Hall Cap and Gown. Because the University Bookstore is closed as a result of the pandemic, students who have questions about their regalia orders are encouraged to contact Oak Hall customer service directly: (800) 223-0429 or [email protected].

HOW WILL I GET MY DIPLOMA?

Diplomas will still be sent by mail after official certification that the graduate have successfully completed all degree requirements. It will take up to four weeks for the Graduation Office to review all applicants individually.

After the degree is awarded, the graduate can track the progress of their diploma online.

WILL UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS STILL RECEIVE THEIR HONOR CORDS?

Candidates who graduated or projected to graduate with honors will receive their honor cords by mail in May. Notifications were sent out on April 28 to both Cal State LA and alternate email address on file.

As posted on the Graduation Office website regarding eligibility for baccalaureate honors, an undergraduate student must have completed a minimum of 45 units in residence at Cal State LA and have attained the appropriate standing (in terms of cumulative grade point average earned at Cal State LA) as described below:

Summa Cum Laude: GPA equal to or greater than 3.9
Magna Cum Laude: GPA equal to or greater than 3.75 but less than 3.9
Cum Laude: GPA equal to or greater than 3.5 but less than 3.75

All students attaining these minimum grade point averages will be awarded the corresponding honors upon conferral of degree. Please note that Commencement honor status will be based on information provided as of April 26, 2021. All final honor designations will be listed on the graduate's transcript and will be based on final grades and verification by the Graduation Office.

WILL UNDERGRADUATE AND GRADUATE STUDENTS STILL RECEIVE THEIR DIPLOMA COVERS?
