Commencement Updates

To help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and comply with public health orders, Commencement 2020 will not be held this spring.
Why did Cal State LA decide to do this?
Local and state government officials have enacted restrictions on public gatherings to promote social distancing and help prevent the spread of COVID-19. To comply with these orders and protect the health and safety of our community, we have suspended all events at Cal State LA until further notice. The California State University system also has directed all campuses to cancel public events including Commencement.
Is Commencement 2020 being rescheduled?
Given the restrictions in place because of COVID-19, Cal State LA plans to schedule Commencement 2020 for a later time when we can gather safely and in accordance with public health orders. We will determine the date and the parameters of the event based on the guidance of public health officials.
Will the Class of 2020 be recognized before the rescheduled Commencement 2020?
We published the Class of 2020 Recognition website to honor the outstanding accomplishment of our graduates. We invite the Class of 2020 to visit the website and share it with friends and family. The graduate names* are listed under their home college and degree earned. The website also includes video message to the Class of 2020 from Cal State LA President William A. Covino and from the deans. The website features stories and photos of outstanding graduates, who represent the brilliance, resilience, innovation, and creativity of the Class of 2020.
To help you celebrate, we’ve also created Class of 2020 downloads, including printable signs, digital photo frames, and social media graphics. Please share your photos, feelings, and plans on our #CalStateLAGrad social media campaign.
*The list includes all eligible graduating students for fall 2019, winter 2020, spring 2020, and summer 2020 as of May 14, 2020. Please note that inclusion in this recognition website does not guarantee graduation from the University, nor is the list inclusive. To officially graduate from California State University, Los Angeles, students must satisfy all University, college, and department requirements for a specific degree.
Will I still graduate and earn my degree?
Yes, students will still graduate and earn their degrees. Graduation applications and fees must be submitted online to avoid face-to-face interactions. Please visit the Graduation Office website for instructions.
