Commencement 2021 Announcement

Dear Class of 2021 and Class of 2020:

The Cal State LA community is excited to celebrate your outstanding achievement in person! This email includes important information about your in-person Commencement on the campus of Cal State LA in July with guests.

These are the details:

When

Cal State LA’s in-person Commencement will take place on Wednesday, July 21, through Friday, July 23, and Monday, July 26, through Thursday, July 29. The ceremonies will be college-based.

Guests

Each graduate will be allotted two guest tickets. We will also livestream the ceremony so all of your family and friends will be able to enjoy the celebration of your achievement.

Location

The ceremonies will take place at Cal State LA’s baseball stadium, Reeder Field. An outdoor venue on our campus will allow the greatest opportunity to celebrate, while taking the necessary measures to keep everyone safe. We are modifying the baseball field for this special event. Additional seating and shade structures will be added to the field in anticipation of the weather.

The Ceremony

During the ceremony, your name will be called and you will have the opportunity to walk across the stage and have your photo taken. Our ceremonies will also include a graduation address, music, and the turning of the tassels. Hooding will not take place at these ceremonies.

Regalia

Caps, gowns and other regalia are highly recommended, but not required. The University Bookstore will have regalia available for purchase starting on Monday, June 21. Please follow the bookstore’s Instagram page @calstatelabookstore for updates and store hours.

Protocols

As we celebrate, we want to ensure that measures are in place to keep you and your loved ones safe. By attending Commencement, graduates and guests agree and attest that they have reviewed and will abide by Cal State LA’s COVID-19 health and safety protocols*.

  1. I will not enter Cal State LA's campus and/or facilities if I have tested positive for COVID-19 within the past 10 days, have had close contact with a person known to have COVID-19 within the past 14 days, have been directed by a health care provider or public health officer to isolate or quarantine, or am experiencing any symptoms associated with COVID-19.
  2. I understand the risk of attending a large crowded event where the vaccine status of others in attendance may be unknown.
  3. If I am not vaccinated, I will wear an appropriate face covering that fully covers the mouth and nose at all times on Cal State LA premises, except while consuming food or a beverage.
  4. I agree to notify Cal State LA immediately if I test positive for COVID-19 in the 48 hours after attending the event by calling the Cal State LA Student Health Center at (323) 343-3300

* These protocols will be adjusted as needed based on updated state and county regulations.

Congratulations again on earning your degree! We look forward to celebrating you.
