he university offers a wide variety of FREE academic resources. Links are provided to some of these on the menu. There are also a wide variety of periodic events and workshops to help students succeed. Keep an eye open for announcements, pay attention to the University Calendar of Events and read your CSULA email, as there are announcements sent out to students about these opportunities, including free computer workshops and finals week study support events, to name a couple, Announcement include CSU-system wide opportunities like the California Pre-Doctoral Fellowship Program for students planning to pursue a PhD after earning their degree at CSULA.
External agencies can also provide resources. Check any professional organizations for student programs, awards, cash-competitions and more. For example, the American Sociological Association sponsors a Minority Fellowship Program and also offers some travel expense funding for students traveling to present at ASA conferences through the ASA Student Travel Forum Awards program. The Sociology Department also provides partial travel reimbursement for students presenting at the Pacific Sociological Association Annual Meeting. The Office of Graduate Studies Travel Support Program also offers up to 70% reimbursement for students who present at professional conferences. These are only some examples of the resources available to you. Spend a day and research everything this campus has to offer. The Student Union may be one place to start.
