At CSLA, I am interested in the cultural development of Hispanic students, in the expansion of international study programs, in advising and promoting a student publication, Revista Literaria Iberoamericana, and in supporting Hispanic Theatre and its ties with the Hispanic community.

Ph.D. Spanish Literature, University of Texas at Austin, 1978
M.A.  Spanish Literature 1973 University of Texas at Austin
B.A.   Latin American Area Studies & Spanish- American Literature (Double Major) University of                    Kansas, 1968

My teaching objectives are to provide an in-depth view of Hispanic culture and literature to the students by means of a comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach to the subject, selective research, analysis and questioning of cultural and racial stereotypes and myths and current literary fads, with the aim of insuring that students will enter their chosen professional fields with a solid foundation.

I am interested in the interaction of the beaux arts, the sciences and political, moral and philosophical ideas with literature and in the evolution of aesthetic canons. I have written Fate and Fortune in Sixteenth-Century Spain and scholarly articles published in the U.S., Spain and Italy. I am working on another book, Human Destiny in Spanish Literature from the Çid to Calderón, several articles on Cervantes and Lope de Vega, and textbooks including Hispanic Literatures: A History and Anthology and Spanish Composition and Grammar.
