Graduate Assistant for First-Year Writing Program
Beginning Fall Semester 2021
Degree-seeking graduate student in the Department of English in good standing. Graduate Assistants must be registered in a CSU graduate degree program and must be enrolled in courses towards the completion of that graduate degree during the appointment period. Applicants should have the ability to relate well to others within the academic environment, and demonstrate ability and/or interest in working in a multiethnic, multicultural environment.
Exceptions to the minimum eligibility qualifications may be granted at the sole discretion of the University.
The applicant should display an ease and comfort interacting with students of all ethnicities. Advanced research skills and writing proficiency, as well as an ability to mentor undergraduate students, are preferred. The ideal candidate will have web design experience and technological proficiencies in Microsoft Excel and Qualtrics.
The successful applicant should be an effective writer and communicator, possess strong technology competencies, have working availability between the hours of 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM Monday through Friday, and a minimum G.P.A. of a 3.0.
Under the general supervision of the Department Chair, the Graduate Assistant will assist the First-Year Writing Director on projects related to the day-to-day operation and on-going assessment of the First-Year Writing Program. Duties will include supporting the First-Year Writing Director with the following tasks: managing an archive of instructional materials; maintaining websites relating to the First-Year Writing Program; assisting faculty with the preparation of course materials; assisting department staff with activities related to the First-Year Writing program; assisting students with questions about coursework and/or placement; managing end-of-semester assessment activities (e.g.: compiling and distributing assessment materials, including common assignments and rubrics; preparing and distributing sample assignments for scoring; recording assessment data; and extrapolating data from both qualitative and quantitative assessment results); assisting with research and publication projects in the area of Writing Studies; and other tasks as needed.
Current Graduate Assistant rate for an average of 15-20 hours per week.
