Graduate Assistant for the Department of Communication Disorders

Minimum Qualifications:

Degree-seeking or Graduate Certificate seeking graduate student in the Department of Communication Disorders. The Graduate Assistant must be registered in a CSULA graduate degree program or Graduate Certificate Program and must be enrolled in courses towards the completion of that graduate degree or certificate program during the appointment period.  Applicants should have the ability to relate well to others within the academic environment, and demonstrate ability and/or interest in working in a multiethnic, multicultural environment and demonstrate ability and/or interest in working in a multiethnic, multicultural environment. Exceptions to the minimum eligibility qualifications may be granted at the sole discretion of the University.

As a University dedicated to engagement, service and the public good, the successful candidate will be expected to join faculty, staff, students and administrators in a commitment to these purposes.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of the discipline of Communication Disorders, knowledge of auditory system anatomy and physiology, knowledge of auditory disorders, experience working independently in a fast paced environment, capacity to meet deadlines, ability to work well with people operating under academically stressful conditions.

Hiring Criteria:

Passed COMD 400 with grade of A. Compatible schedule with course to be assisted.


Under the general supervision of the Department Chair and the course instructor for COMD 400 (Hearing Science), the graduate assistant will provide instructional assistance for COMD 400 that will include, but is not limited to: class attendance; office hours; collaboration in grading exams and quizzes; support in uploading to Moodle; collaboration in monitoring student questions via Moodle; and other instructional assistance.


Current Graduate Assistant rate for an average of 10 hours per week.
