Graduate Assistant, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
Beginning Spring quarter 2015 and on-going.
Degree-seeking graduate student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Graduate Assistants must be registered in a CSU graduate degree program and must be enrolled in courses towards the completion of that graduate degree during the appointment period. Applicants should have the ability to relate well to others within the academic environment, and demonstrate ability and/or interest in working in a multiethnic, multicultural environment.
As a University dedicated to engagement, service and the public good, the successful candidate will be expected to join faculty, staff, students and administrators in a commitment to these purposes.
Demonstrated excellence as manifested in the grades obtained in the graduate courses taken at CSULA is preferred. Good communication, people/social skills as well as an ability to mentor undergraduate students is essential. Good computer software competency is preferred.
Selection shall be made based on an overall ranking considering the minimum and preferred qualifications.
Under the general supervision of the faculty member, the Graduate Assistant will provide assistance to the faculty as needed. This may include grading homework, class projects and exams, helping the faculty in proctoring exams, providing tutoring to students by conducting small discussion groups related to large lectures course activities, may assist in handling equipment, maintaining office hours to provide direct individual contact between student and graduate assistant, clarifying course material or course content for students. Will perform clerical or other routine tasks such as recording grades, etc.; assisting faculty with research and preparation of course materials; participating in the evaluation of students’ work and other related tasks.
Current Graduate Assistant rate for an average of 10 hours per week (the actual number of hours per week may vary).
