Reporter Alert

Our reporter alert system is a way to harness the internet for the benefit of our audiences. Since we have so few full-time reporters, we try to recruit as many people to volunteer to be 'on-call' to cover happenings, concerts, press conferences, performances, ceremonies, and the like. All we do is ask you for your email adress. Once we sign you up to our list, you will receive notices of events we need covered. If you can go to cover that event, you let our assignment editor know immediately and off you go!

After the event, we ask that you write up your notes on the event. Obviously, if you want to write the story, you would have first priority. If you just want to hand off notes, that would be great: someone else can write the story.

What is really important about this system is that our 'on-call' correspondents use strong journalistic judgement when covering such events:

  • We need at minimum A) The name of the event, B) Where it was held (City, Venue), C) How many people attended, D) When it took place, E) Who spoke/performed/participated, and F) The main point or message of the event.
  • We always want additional material in support of your story: Photos (at minimum 1), audio, video, animation or other media connected to the event.
  • We reply on you getting all your materials to us; we don't have the resources to track you down to get such materials!
