Letters to the Editor
We are always happy to receive letters from our readers, even if they are critical of the way we go about our business.
- We will publish letters only if they are signed, and we can reach you to confirm that you sent the letter.
- Letters submitted to the University Times become our property and will not be returned.
- The University Times never pays compensation for letters submitted for publication. There is also no guarantee – either implied or actual – that your letter will be published.
- To the degree possible, we will print responses to letters as well. However, the final decision as to whether a response letter is published remains with the staff and management of the University Times.
- Letters to the editor should not exceed 250 words. Letters may be edited for clarity, style and length. We would never edit letters based on position, point of view or opinion, and in fact will defend vigorously controversial and unpopular positions, provided they do not express hatred or hostility toward any ethnic group, religion or gender/sex identity, regardless of our own feelings on that subject. Nor will we publish letters that, in our opinion, rise above the level of idea to the level of action that could trigger liability of the University Times.
