Student Rights & Responsibilities Notification of Student’s Rights under the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) California State University, Los Angeles abides by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA), and in so doing, provides students a number of rights with respect to their education records. Among these rights are: the right to inspect and review personal education records, the right to request the amendment of education records in the case of inaccurate or misleading information, the right to consent to disclosures of personally identifiable information contained in these records, and the right to file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education concerning alleged failures by the University to comply with the requirements of FERPA.
