Golden Eagles rock out for Homecoming Week in February
Stuffed with King Taco and adorned with “I ♥ CSULA” gear, Cal State L.A. students swayed to the rhythmic sounds of La Santa Cecilia during “Homecoming Ignite” on Monday, Feb. 7.
Keeping the Homecoming Week party going, Cal State L.A.’s Mardi Gras followed on Tuesday, jazzing up the University-Student Union with CSULA student musicians, a live Zydeco band, comedy improv pros from the Upright Citizens Brigade Touring Company, and more.
To celebrate Golden Eagle pride and promote the week’s upcoming basketball games, the Homecoming Pep Rally rocked “black and gold” with music from AMP Radio, an inflatable basketball shooting game, a dance routine by the Golden Eagle cheerleaders, a Kogi gourmet food truck and free giveaways.
The knee-slappin’ highlight of the week was the “ASI Hip Hop & Comedy Fest: Part 2” on Thursday at the Luckman Theatre. Top-notch entertainers J. Cole, Big Sean, James Davis, Chris Spencer, and Raquel Rodriguez performed to a sold-out crowd of more than a 1,000.
Other festivities during the week included a New Orleans-style Housing Parade, the Golden Eagle men’s and women’s basketball games, tailgate parties, bowling tournaments, and a Homecoming dance.
“Homecoming Week had a tremendous turnout this year from students, staff, faculty, athletes, and community members. And, we owe this year’s success to the hard work of our event planning committee and ASI (Associated Students, Inc.) members. Working with Athletics and campus programming partners, the setup, planning, and execution could not have gone any better,” said Mona Aly, ASI vice president for administration.
