Treasures aplenty at Luckman Fine Arts Complex
Webcam captures storm’s performance; pot of gold remains elusive
A pot of gold was preliminarily detected – albeit indirectly – earlier this week at The Harriet and Charles Luckman Fine Arts Complex (located at the left end of the rainbow).
With jewels of performance venues and art gallery, the Luckman Complex is one of Cal State L.A.’s treasured sites. It is home of the critically acclaimed Luckman Jazz Orchestra and a premiere destination for outstanding internationally recognized dance, theatre and music performers. At a gateway to the San Gabriel Valley, the state-of-the-art facility features the 1,152-seat Luckman Theatre, the 250-seat black-box Intimate Theatre, an outdoor amphitheatre, and a 3,600-square-foot gallery. Webcam captures rain, rainbow, snow
When storms roll through the San Gabriel Valley, Cal State L.A.’s webcam catches more rain than a rooftop (in daylight anyway). Viewable live on the web at http://tinyurl.com/webcam-csula, the webcam captured the images below this week. (The camera can pan, zoom and capture images; access to its controls, however, is restricted.) All of the images look northeast toward Pasadena and the San Gabriel Mountains. Click on the thumbnails for larger versions. They’re not high-resolution, but together they’re worth at least a thousand words.
The campus webcam tracks the storm in time frames (from left):
4:00 p.m., Monday, Dec. 7, 2009: Bands of clouds roll across the valley (generally coming from northwest, left to right).
4:39 p.m., Monday, Dec. 7, 2009: From the ephemeral rainbow, the camera’s “artistic” resolution captures an ethereal look.
8:44 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009: The morning after: Clear blue skies, snow-capped peaks, and ca-ca-ca-cold temperatures.
More rainbows may be on the way. The National Weather Service forecasts that rain with mountain snow will be possible each day Thursday through Sunday, Dec. 10 through 13. For the latest weather around Cal State L.A., visit the http://tinyurl.com/weather-csula.
