Pat Brown Institute’s 34th Annual Awards Dinner to celebrate social justice and honor five awardees who have promoted civic engagement

WHAT:    The Edmund G. “Pat” Brown Institute of Public Affairs at Cal State L.A will be holding its 34th Annual Awards Dinner on April 23. The event celebrates the institute’s ongoing efforts in pursuing social justice, equality of opportunity, enlightened civic engagement, and an enhanced quality of life for all Californians.

WHO:   This year's event theme is “Rebooting Civic Education,” which highlights the efforts and dedication of the five honorees who have worked to promote civic engagement and contribute to the strength and vibrancy of our communities. The honorees are:

  • Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye, chief justice of the State of California
  • María Elena Durazo, national vice president for immigration, civil rights, and diversity at UNITE HERE!; president of the Miguel Contreras Foundation
  • Sascha Rice, writer, director, producer, and Hilary Armstrong, executive producer, California State of Mind: The Legacy of Pat Brown
  • Nate Kaplan, founder, SeePolitical.com

Guests will include elected officials, business and labor leaders, and members of the academic community.

WHEN:   Thursday, April 23. Reception at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner and program at 6:45 p.m.

WHERE:   Millennium Biltmore Hotel Los Angeles, 506 South Grand Avenue, Los Angeles.

MORE:    Chief Justice Cantil-Sakauye is scheduled to speak at 6:55 p.m.
