A Special Message to the University Community:
The Cal State L.A. community shares a tremendous sense of sadness over the terrible loss of life this week at Virginia Tech. There are undoubtedly difficult days ahead for all those who have been touched by this tragedy. We wish to express our sincere condolences to, and solidarity with, the friends, families and entire community of Virginia Tech.
In the aftermath of this, any Cal State L.A. student feeling distressed by this event or other difficulties may find support and assistance through the professional counseling staff at Cal State L.A.Âs Student Health Center. University personnel may contact the Employee Assistance Program offered through Human Resources Management, (800) 777-9376.
Civility, understanding, and mutual respect toward all members of the University community are intrinsic to excellence in teaching and learning, to the existence of a safe and healthful workplace, and to the maintenance of a campus culture and environment which serves the needs of its many constituencies. Like every campus and public place, Cal State L.A. aspires to have the continuing stability that allows it to fulfill its mission. Toward that end, the safety of all on campus remains a high priority.
Perhaps, if anything can come from this senseless tragedy, it may be through our own thoughtful reflection and realization of how important it is to look out for one another as part of a caring and supportive campus community.
