Reza Shirazi Honored as

Cal State L.A.'s 1995-96 Outstanding Engineering Student

Los Angeles, CA -- February 23, 1996 -- The School of
Engineering and Technology at California State University, Los
Angeles is proud to announce that Downey resident Reza Shirazi,
Electrical and Computer Engineering senior, was selected as the
1995-96 Cal State L.A. Outstanding Engineering Student
The College of Fellows of the Institute for the Advancement of
Engineering. The awards banquet was held recently at the Jet
Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California. Students from
sixteen other universities were also honored during the event.
Shirazi was accompanied to the awards ceremony by Helen Boussalis,
Chair of CSLA Department of Electrical Engineering.

The Education Outreach Program of the College of Fellows is devoted
to recognizing outstanding undergraduate engineering students
from colleges and universities throughout Southern California.
The Administrative Committee of the CSLA School of Engineering
and Technology was charged with selecting an awardee for this
prestigious honor. The criteria for selection include academic
accomplishments, leadership and participation in student organizations.

Shirazi upholds an outstanding academic record, and has been on
the CSLA Dean's List for three consecutive years. He will graduate
this coming Spring with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical
Engineering and a minor in Biology. His honor society memberships
include Phi Kappa Phi, Golden Key, Tau Beta Pi, Eta Kappa Nu and
Alpha Gamma Sigma. To assist with his academic advancement, he
received several scholarships from companies such as Pac Bell.

From 1992 to 1993, he served as Treasurer for the Engineering
and Technology Student Council. Since then Shirazi has been tutoring
students at the CSLA Tutorial Center. He has been a peer mentor
for the Minority Summer Bridge Program, the Minority Science Program
and the Health Center Opportunity Program. In addition to serving
the University community, Shirazi is a certified tutor for the
International Organization of the College Reading and Learning
