Boing! Was that America’s economy hitting bottom—
CBE Dean Romero to offer perspective on prognosis for
Los Angeles, CA –
How much longer and deeper will the
economic recession run? Are recent hopeful signs actually "green shoots"
or merely a false dawn? Those will be among the questions
Philip J. Romero, dean of Cal State L.A.'s College of Business and
Economics, will address when he presents "Are We There Yet? Has the American Economy Hit
Bottom, and How Fast Will it Grow on the Other Side?" Thursday, Aug. 13,
at 4:30 p.m. in Simpson Tower, room F122. The talk is free and open to
the campus community. Formerly a professor of finance and
business dean at the University of Oregon and chief economist to
then-Governor Pete Wilson of California, Romero will share his personal
perspective on the current state of the national economy and some of the
likely challenges that will follow the recession. "For example, Can we expect—as many
commentators argue—higher inflation in the future?" he asks.
"There is great disagreement among economists and market commentators on
these issues." Romero is completing a book on economic
trends expected over the next 20 years that will affect retirees' "nest
eggs." * College of Business and Economics at Cal State L.A.:
