Cal State L.A.'s Pat Brown Institute
Announces the 1998 Public
Policy Student Interns

Los Angeles, California -- November 11, 1998 -- California State University, Los Angeles recently announced the placement of five students in internships through the Pat Brown Institute's Public Policy Internship Program at Cal State L.A. The purpose of the Institute's internship program is to expose students to applied experience in public policymaking, various policy networks, and potential careers in public service.

The Pat Brown Institute-ARCO Fellowships were presented to Whittier resident Lydia Uribe, a graduate student of public administration at Cal State L.A., and Los Angeles resident France Nguyen, a graduate student of public health and public policy at UCLA. Uribe recently completed a six-month public policy internship in the Office of the Mayor, City of Los Angeles, and Nguyen is currently interning with California Assembly Speaker Antonio Villaraigosa.

Sherman Oaks resident Deidre Decker, an undergraduate student of political science at Cal State L.A., and Glendale resident Alfred Aghajanian, a graduate student of political science at Cal State L.A., each received the Pat Brown Institute-Stern Memorial Fellowship. Decker is currently interning with State Senator Tom Hayden, and Aghajanian has completed a three-month public policy internship with the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor.

Additionally, the Pat Brown Institute-Edison Fellowship was awarded to Toluca Lake resident Jackie Loza, an undergraduate student of political science at Cal State L.A. She completed a three-month public policy internship with State Senator Hilda Solis.

Generous support from ARCO, Southern California Edison and the Sidney Stern Memorial Trust made it possible for student interns to receive quarterly stipends.
