Full-length Concert Version in English Includes Award-winning Cast
The Los Angeles Concert Opera Association presents The Land of Smiles by Viennese composer Franz Lehár in a full-length concert version in English at Cal State L.A.'s Luckman Theatre on Sunday, January 19 at 2 p.m. For tickets call TicketMaster at (213) 365-3500/(714) 740-7878 or the Luckman box office at (323) 343-6600.
The Land of Smiles is a romantic operetta with engaging melodies, Viennese charm and graceful orchestration, highlighted by the endearing song "Yours is My Heart Alone," made famous by the Austrian tenor Richard Tauber and recently performed by Luciano Pavarotti and Placido Domingo in the Three Tenors Concerts.
Lehár's exotic masterpiece is sung by Metropolitan Opera auditions-winner soprano Sewell Griffith as Baroness Lisa and tenor Charles Castronovo as Prince Sou-Chong. The operetta is directed by Loren L. Zachary. Mitch Hanlon conducts the Los Angeles Performing Arts Orchestra.
This is the 10th production by the Los Angeles Performing Arts Orchestra which has brought other Viennese favorites Countess Mariza, Count of Luxembourg, Gypsy Baron and The Merry Widow to Los Angeles audiences.
Tickets for The Land of Smiles are $30 and $25 for general, and students and seniors 65 and over are $12.
